Anna & Rukie's Cookbook

It is important we keep food safe, here are some things to think about:

Always wash your hands
•    Buy the best food you can afford, store it safely and eat it quickly so there is less waste.
•    Planning meals can save time and money.

•    Make sure that foods are eaten within the ‘eat-by date’ on the packaging.
•    Make sure your fridge and freezer are kept cold enough and clean, especially around the door seals.
•    Perishable foods like cheese and meat must be kept at the correct temperature.
•    Do not re-freeze food once it has been de-frosted.
•    Take care when defrosting frozen meats and follow instructions carefully.
•    Raw meat should be kept away food cooked food or food that’s eaten raw.
•    Do not used dented tins.
•    Always wash your hands thoroughly before preparing food and keep them clean whilst cooking.
•    Make sure your work surfaces are clean.
•    Clean pans, chopping boards and utensils properly.
•    Have a cleaning cloth for washing dishes and a different one for washing the floor.
•    Keep food in clean containers and wipe up crumbs to help stop flies, and mice etc.
•    Make sure all food is cooked thoroughly.
•    Young children and elderly people should not eat raw eggs or raw milk products.
•    Remember some people are allergic to certain foods e.g. nuts, wheat or dairy products etc.
•    Once food is cooked eat it quickly.  If it is to be used later cool it and put it in the fridge or keep it hot
