Measles vaccination

The NHS is asking parents to have their children fully vaccinated against measles as many European countries are reporting large outbreaks of the disease.

Dr Jane Moore, director of public health for NHS outer north east London, said: “The most effective way of preventing measles is the MMR vaccine. I urge parents to check their children have had both doses of the vaccine.”

Children in the UK are offered immunisation against measles with the MMR – measles, mumps and rubella – vaccine.

The first dose is given at 13 months old with a second dose given before a child starts school.
